The War Room Essay Example for Free

The War Room Essay The documentary by D.A.Pennebaker and C.Hedgus investigates two sides of the medal associated with the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton. It gives an overview of pipe laying and backstreet intrigues performed by the representatives of Bill Clinton’s campaign. The chief person of the backstage side is James Carville. He is imposing and respectable manager of the campaign who stresses his logical ability to solve problems and emotional potential to override his followers. His persuasive way of speaking and charismatic personality outshines pale character of his partner George Stephanopoulos with whom they are responsible for the success of Bill Clinton’s political campaign of 1992. George Stephanopoulos is intelligent, dignified, mature person, who, however, lacks emotionality and public energy necessary to make electorate fall in love with him. Although perceived as inexperienced and excessively quiet person, George Stephanopoulos gives an impression of stability due to his belief that Bill Clinton will change the economic and political situation in the country for better. James Carville has enormous magnetism and wins over millions of people throughout the USA not only because of his inexhaustible intellect, but also because of his ability to logically prove his case. His speeches are characterized with pure genuineness and desire to explain difficult things and find common language with his listeners. The movie describes the efforts and decision-making of the two men with respect to Bill Clinton and his transformation from unpopular stranger to the American President. Improving the prestige of the future president among population, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos deal with numerous accusations of draft-dodging and adultery. To protect the authority of their leader, through the movie they compose professional and effective ads based on moral values and stereotypes of the American culture. During brief breaks they sometimes get a chance to have a snack as well as take a short nap at night. Actually, a big part of the movie grabs audience’s attention by depicting the professional activity of James Carville while he tries to smooth the situation with Gennifer Flowers, works on TV commercial, and carries on dialogs with the Republicans. Showing Carville’s girlfriend Mary Matalin who works as a strategist during Bush’s campaign, the director of the movie arouses interest among the audience. Pennebaker and Hedgus succeeded in their attempt to portray politicians as ordinary people who eat, drink, sleep, and hesitate discussing everyday problems common to people all over the world. Unlike news summary, the directors did not add voice to movie giving audience a chance to critically analyze what they see and independently form their own opinions. Contrary to general point of view regarding the cynicism and dishonesty of politicians the movie gives an insight into the whole process of political campaign intertwined with morality, warmth, and belief in future. Regardless of the fact whether the audience sticks to the Democrats, Republicans, or finds itself somewhere in between, the movie The War Room grabs attention of people highlighting human aspects of politics breaking down stereotypes about total mud and pessimism inside political circles. The directors have emphasized the role of people and their attitudes rather than the consequences of their actions, selfish ends, or lucrative impulses. Works Cited The War Room. Dir. A Speech Directed to Politicians About The Problem of Homelessness :: Papers

A Speech Directed to Politicians About The Problem of Homelessness Today, we are faced with an increasing problem in society – homelessness. When we walk down the street, we find many people sleeping rough, living a life with drugs and alcohol as their only comfort. We are all united in tackling this dilemma that forces local authorities in Britain to take responsibility for housing 110,790 homeless households and in London, 28,610. I alone cannot do it, which is why I need your help to set up bed and breakfasts, detox centres, charities and some solace for these people. It is our duty to help our nation bring itself up to scratch; it is our duty to help each other. â€Å"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you†. Not only do we need to find homes for the homeless. We need to help them kick the habit of drugs and get them to hospitals where their health can be cared for. Homeless people have a frequency of physical health problems two or three time higher than the general population. Also, more than half of the people sleeping rough on the street have mental health problems, more than half. They can be a danger to themselves and to others, which is why they absolutely need our help. An alarming thought is that the statistics only count the homeless people who have applied to local authorities for help, so I have no idea how many have not been accounted for who desperately need help. I have heard about too many cases of homeless people who abuse drugs, which have shocked me and will shock you as well. One of them was a nineteen-year-old called Francis - he wasn’t that sure of his age, just like many other things in his life. His teeth were rotting so badly there were just black shards of them left and he smelled of old faeces and sweat. His own mother had introduced him to drugs when he was just a fifteen-year-old and then dumped him and his brother in a

Victimless: Crime and His/her Business Thrive

ss Possession and carrying a firearm or the illegal purchase of a firearm is indeed a victimless crime. The possession of a firearm is a victimless crime because no one is harmed in the process, no one is complaining about the activities, and you are not leaving a victim behind. These offenses are not usually listed as victimless crimes because people believe guns kill people. While you are in the process of a legal or illegal purchase of a firearm, no one is being harmed in the process. A salesman is selling and a buyer is buying, it is as simple as that. The gun is being transferred from POINT A to POINT B.Even in the case of the purchase of an illegal firearm the case is same. The salesman is not aware of the buyers intentions. There is absolutely no harm being done in the transaction of a purchase. The gun is not going to load itself in the case and fire off. Also while you are in the process of purchasing a legal or an illegal firearm, neither side of the party is complaining ab out the activities that are taking place. The salesman is making a sale, and is content on making his/her business thrive. The buyer is buying a product that he/she is inquiring about. In this case, a firearm and in conclusion no harm is done.During the purchase of a legal or an illegal firearm, there is no damage being done at that moment. No damage to property nor to any people. Therefore you are not leaving behind a victim. When you purchase anything, there is no harm being done in any case. For example; you are not harming anyone when you are purchasing a pizza, or purchasing a slurpee at a mini market, or buying you monthly groceries for your home. It is simply a harmless purchase and no damage is being done. These offenses are not usually listed as victimless crimes because people believe that guns kill people, when in fact people with guns kill people. Some other examples of â€Å"victimless crimes† are prostitution, gambling, and purchasing/selling drugs. These are vic timless crimes because no one is harmed and no one complains of the activities. Again I would like to remind my readers that possession and/or carrying a firearm is considered a victimless crime in my opinion because you can purchase a firearm without harming anyone, without either party complaining of the activity, your are not leaving a victim behind, also neither party is damaging people or property.

Are Food Bloggers An Easy Target For Copyright Infringement

Are food bloggers an easy target for copyright infringement? Because it is just recipe writing, blogging can someone easily take away our product (our writing, our associated photos and recipe cards) without prior permission. Where does the law stand? Patent Right: If you create a recipe or introduced a new method of production, or invented a new ring rodent which is substantially different from the prior art, you can claim patent for the recipe, or if you are introducing a new method in cooking an already well-known dish still you can claim your right over the said dish because you have invested your labor, time and originality to create that end product. For example, if you can cook an omelet in an innovative way you can claim copyright†¦show more content†¦Then yes, your product will be guarded by copyright laws. The philosophy behind the same is to reward you for your labor and creativity by recognising your ‘intellectual’ ‘property’. So the test to determine the same is will it qualify as your intellectual property?. Again coming back to food blogs, as we all are aware, all food bloggers has their own unique style and flair for writing, it may not be just a display of some ingredients it has their persona l touch. So your writings are protected because it is your baby. Another aspect to consider in the case of our food bloggers are, what is our ultimate aim of food blogging. We want other’s to make and enjoy our dish isn’t it? Yet another successful plate of our food makes us happy, isn’t it. That is why almost all of us use the phrase ‘serve and enjoy’. So we are giving permission for non-commercial fair use. Having said that if you came to know that your invention is served in a restaurant and they are making a few pounds out of it, then you have every right to claim an ownership for that dish. With so many cooking competitions and reality show looking for innovative, creative dishes it is possible that a contestant’s research may end up in the reproduction of one of your ‘own creation’. Having said all these, it should be admitted that it is so hard t prove that substantial difference from the original in the UK and The US. Th ere are not
